Alka Ahuja

Alka has been practicing yoga for over 20 years, having started her yoga journey India. What started as a compulsory weekly activity gradually developed into a habit that accompanied her through her long career in journalism; in the demanding-yet-fulfilling job of motherhood; and during the various international moves that eventually brought her to Singapore. These tumultuous years taught her firsthand the immense therapeutic benefits of yoga – both physical and mental/emotional.

Yoga, Alka believes, is a truly multidimensional approach to life, as it uses the physical plane (asanas) to access and regulate emotional and mental equilibrium. Having experienced these benefits through a regular yoga practice, as well as the impact it had on her own flexibility and metabolism, Alka was drawn to sharing her knowledge with others.

After a long career in journalism, she decided to take up her passion full-time. She is a Yoga Alliance-certified instructor who believes that hatha yoga has the power to deliver exactly what each practitioner is ready for: an energetic physical workout; a de-stressing and calming experience; or a deeper spiritual practice. In Alka’s class, you can be sure of a safe yet demanding practice, informed by her years of personal yoga experience. She also has an in-depth knowledge of the Ayurvedic (the sister science of yoga) diet and lifestyle, which helps her bring a more holistic approach to her teaching.
